Wieland Final Discussion Group 3. Sex/love/Incest

Members: Yu Zhang, Jamie McGee, Ashely Cox, Ryan Ferraioli, Jenny Jan, Morgan Parks, Josh Orol

Notes:
- We concluded that "incest" was not a prominent theme in Wieland.
- Clara and Wieland's Parents died quite early. Therefore, Clara is left to live with Catharine, Wieland and Pleyel who joins later. These two are the only men in her life and she developed a strong relationship with them.
- Clara is Naive
- Different kinds of love are shown through out Wieland
- Everyone loves Clara, she loves everyone back
- The extreme level of affection between characters in such a closed community almost guarantees a breakdown when an outside force is thrown in.
- Carwin is the catalyst for the breakdown of the relationships in the community.

Our theme Summarized.
Charles Brockden Brown explores different types of love throughout Wieland. We have Clara's idealist/pure love for her brother, Clara's physical/romantic love for Pleyel, and Clara's fascination with Carwin who deviates much from the other men in her life.
